Came across an article online from Complex Magazine, the Top 25 Japanese Creatives You Need to Know. One artists peaked my interest, Nobuyoshi Araki. He is considered one of the most prolific artists alive or dead in Japan. Araki has published 350 books and are erotic in nature, some say pornographic. Which ever you lean towards does not deny his talent and genius. Arakimentari is a documentary fimed in 2005 by Travis Klose about the life and work of Nobuyoshi Araki. In an article back in 2006 by C.B. Liddell for the Japan Times, Araki explains his philosophy of photography that is very easily relatable at any level.
"What's important in my work is always the relationship between me and the object -- it's a kind of love story. I don't concern myself with why a relationship starts or where it goes. The most important thing is just the relationship between the two of us at that moment. This world becomes our world." - Nobuyoshi Araki

Dennis Stock 1928-2010
Dennis Stock died Monday in Florida, he was 81. An outstanding photographer who became a associate member of Magnum, a photographic cooperative he joined in 1951. Stocked entered a Life magazine contest for young photographers and won first prizes for a series of refugees arriving in New York's harbor.
Stocks most lasting and notable pictures are of James Dean that were published for Life. Iconic portraits of Hollywood stars, blues and jazz musicians from 1957 - 1960. Producing 15 books of photographic work and creating that captured moments of what Stock called, " an attitude of childlike discovery into adult existence."

Sevket Sahintas - Capturing Istanbul's Underbelly

Sevket Sahintas is a self-taught photographer and cabbie by night in Instanbul Turkey from midnight until dawn. Sahintas, who began driving a taxi when he was 19, said he started taking photos five years ago when he began working the night shift. His work highlights the huge income gap in Turkish society. Even though the Turkish economy enjoyed steady growth for much of the past decade, the latest government statistics show that nearly one in five Turks live below the poverty line. During the past year, the economic crisis pummeled Turkey's export-driven industries, pushing unemployment to record highs.
"I like to capture those contradictions," he said. "Happy smiling people on the ad boards beside that unhappy person who is trying to sleep. I want the happy people to see that minority and do something about it." Sahintas also takes black-and-white portraits of the other characters who roam Istanbul's streets at night: dirty street children, garbage pickers, transvestite prostitutes.
